2048 — slide, merge, reach 2048.

Play 2048 here — slide the number tiles, merge equal numbers, and reach the 2048 tile. Every move slides the whole board and drops in a new 2 (usually) or 4. No sign-up, and your score, best score and current board are saved on this device, so you can pick up where you left off.

The Rules

How 2048 works

  1. Slide the whole board. Swipe on your phone, use the arrow buttons, or press the arrow keys / WASD. Every tile slides as far as it can in that direction.
  2. Equal tiles merge once per move. Two 2s become a 4, two 4s become an 8, and so on. The merged value is added to your score. A tile made this move does not merge again until the next move.
  3. A new tile appears after every move. Usually a 2, sometimes a 4, in a random empty cell.
  4. Reach 2048 to win. Make a 2048 tile and you win — then choose Keep Going to chase an even bigger tile, with no limit.
  5. Game over when no move is left. If the board is full and no two neighbours match, the game ends and your score, best, biggest tile and moves are shown.
  6. Undo fixes a slip. Undo steps back one move at a time. Your best score per board size is saved on this device, and your current board resumes after a reload.
  7. Board sizes change the game. 4x4 is the classic board; 3x3 is tighter and faster, 5x5 gives more room. Each size keeps its own best score.
